HP StorageWorks 9100 Extreme Data Storage System administration guide V1.0.2 (AN540-96018, February 2010)
4 The HP ExDS CLI
Overview
You can manage and operate many aspects of the HP ExDS9100 Storage System with the exdsmgr
command. All changes to system configuration or server configuration are executed by this utility.
CAUTION:
Do not try to manually configure the system. For example, do not edit the /etc/hosts file. As well
as being unsupported, your changes will be lost the next time the ExDS configure server
command executes.
The ExDS commands allow you to perform the following tasks:
• Configure HP ExDS9100 Storage System system information and parameters.
• Configure HP ExDS9100 Storage System servers, storage, and services.
• Boot and shut down HP ExDS9100 Storage System servers.
• Configure filesystems.
• Start and stop filesystems.
• Back up and restore the HP ExDS9100 Storage System system database.
• Manage e-mail alert filters.
The ExDS commands are used and explained in context throughout this guide.
Appendix_A_CLI_command_reference contains a list of the commands.
When you enter the exdsmgr command without any arguments, the command opens the ExDS
command line interface (CLI) and the exds> prompt appears. At this prompt, you can run the exdsmgr
command interactively.
The exdsmgr command requires access to the utility database and the utility filesystem (/var/mxso).
If these are not available, the command cannot run, or runs in degraded manner. For information on
troubleshooting the exdsmgr command, see Troubleshooting.
You can determine the software version ofexdsmgr by entering the version command. Unless your
system has been patched, this is also the version of the HP ExDS9100 Storage System software that
was used to install your system.
