NOTE:
The software does not distinguish left and right; instead, box 2 and 3 are determined by the way SAS
cables are connected. As part of the factory installation process, the exdsmgr identify storage
command verifies that SAS cables are wired correctly.
An array normally has two controllers. Each controller has a battery-backed cache. Each controller
has its own firmware. Normally all servers should have a dual-redundant path to all arrays. The
exdsmgr show array command verifies this. The “Path from server” section of the command output
should show all servers having a path to all controllers.
The exdsmgr show array <number> command shows the status of disk drives. The command
displays the status in a layout similar to the physical layout of the disk drawers. Note that box
identification relies on correct cabling.
Use the exdsmgr set array <number> locator=on box=<box-number> bay=<bay-number>
command to turn on the locator light of a specific disk drive. When you light up a specific disk drive,
the LED on the disk should illuminate blue; however, the disk's corresponding number on the HP
ExDS9100cx front panel illuminates as solid green (normally, these numbers are fluttering green to
show disk activity). Also, whenever any disk in the drawer has a blue LED, the blue UID button on
the front panel of the drawer starts to flash to indicate that the disk panel is in “locate mode.”
LUNs
When a logical disk is created on an array, the HP ExDS9100 system software assigns it a LUN
number as it is discovered. There is no particular ordering to LUN numbers. The LUN number is unique
to each logical disk and never changes. The LUN can also be identified by its WWID, which is a
globally unique UID. LUNs are used to store filesystem data; however, some LUNs are used by the
HP ExDS9100 software.
