The HP ExDS9100 update mechanism includes the firmware in the mxso-firmware RPM. This contains
the appropriate version of all firmware needed at the time the RPM was made. However, there could
be more recent updates available from www.hp.com. HP Support will tell you which mechanism is
appropriate for you.
HP ExDS9100 update mechanism
1. Download the mxso-firmware RPM.
2. Update the RPM on all servers using the exdsmgr update command.
The update is automatically installed the next time you boot a server.
NOTE:
To maintain the system in an operational state, you should reboot one at a time.
3. Use the exdsmgr shutdown server and exdsmgr boot server commands.
4. Run the exdsmgr syscheck command to verify that all components have been updated.
Standard online update mechanism
1. Download the online firmware update utility as directed by HP technical support.
2. Copy it to every server (you can also copy it to a globally mounted filesystem).
3. Run the online firmware utility on each server.
4. The updates take affect as follows:
a. The iLO is updated as soon as the update utility finishes.
b. Other components require a reboot. To maintain the system in an operational state, you
should reboot one at a time. Use the exdsmgr shutdown and exdsmgr boot commands.
5. Run the exdsmgr syscheck command to verify that all components have been updated.
Upgrading Onboard Administrator
1. Install the firmware onto the system in one of two ways depending on the source of the firmware:
• Download the HP ExDS9100 mxso-firmware RPM. Install the mxso-firmware RPM on
all servers using the exdsmgr install update command.
• www.hp.com
2. ssh onto the OA using the HP ExDS9100 or Administrator user name.
3. Run the update image command on the OA to reload the firmware. The URL is:
http://<exdsadmin-ip>:9070/fw/<filename>
where <exdsadmin-ip> is the IP address of the exdsadmin virtual host.
NOTE:
The OA will reset itself automatically.
4. Run the exdsmgr syscheck command to validate that all servers are the same and at the
correct minimuml revision.
