HP StorageWorks 9100 Extreme Data Storage System administration guide V1.0.2 (AN540-96018, February 2010)

6. Insert the new controller in to the HP ExDS9100c chassis, but do not slide it fully in.
7. Attach the two SAS expansion cables that connect the HP ExDS9100cc to the I/O controllers on
the HP ExDS9100cx enclosure, ensuring that they are connected in the original places.
8. Push the controller fully into the chassis so it engages.
9. Reattach the SAS cable that connects the HP ExDS9100cc to the SAS switch in the c-Class blade
enclosure. This is plugged into port 1.
10. Run the exdsmgr syscheck command to verify that the firmware is correct (if there are no errors
reported, then the firmware is correct). Normally, the new controller is flashed to the same firmware
revision as the running controller. However, the management (SEP) firmware is not automatically
updated.
NOTE:
The running controller will update the replaced controller's firmware if it is lower than the version on
the running controller. If the firmware of the replaced controller is a higher version than that of the
running controller, then the replaced controller's firmware will not be updated.
See the HP StorageWorks ExDS9100c SAS controller customer self repair instructions for more
information.
Replacing the HP ExDS9100cc controller battery
You can hot swap the battery of an HP ExDS9100cc controller without interrupting filesystem activity
(although performance could degrade as the cache cannot be used during this period).
1. Check the expiration date of the replacement battery spare part kit. If the battery has expired,
do not use it; get another replacement battery.
2. Determine if a controller is booting by observing the seven-segment display. If a controller is
booting, the display will not read on.
IMPORTANT:
Do not replace the battery while a controller is booting.
3. Remove the old battery.
4. Insert new battery.
5. Use the exdsmgr show array command to verify that the battery is charging or is working
properly. You might need to wait for up to four minutes to see the status change.
6. Continue to monitor the battery status for several hours after replacement. See ExDS9100cc
battery fails after replacement.
See the HP StorageWorks ExDS9100c SAS controller battery customer self repair instructions for more
information.
Replacing the HP ExDS9100c power supply
The HP ExDS9100 system can operate using one power supply. You can hot swap a power supply.
1. Remove the old power cord.
2. Remove the power supply module.
3. Insert a new power supply module.
