HP StorageWorks 9100 Extreme Data Storage System administration guide V1.0.2 (AN540-96018, February 2010)
Replacing both disk drives
The “system disk” on an HP ExDS9100 server blade comprises a logical RAID 1disk that is mirrored
over two physical SFF disk drives in the server blade. As long as one drive continues to operate, the
server blade can operate. However if both disk drives have failed, the system disk is lost, and the
server must be reinstalled.
To reinstall a server:
1. Remove both disk drives.
2. Insert two replacement drives.
3. Reinstall the server as described in Reinstalling a server blade, including re-applying any local
customizations.
Replacing the Onboard Administrator (OA) module
You can replace OA modules one at a time. However, you cannot replace both OA modules at once.
CAUTION:
Do not remove both OA modules for the blade enclosure while any server blade is powered on. Doing
so could compromise data integrity.
To replace an OA module:
1. Check if the standby OA has an IP address. Use the exdsmgr show blade_chassis com-
mand. If one of the OA addresses is 0.0.0.0, then you must assign an IP address as follows:
a. Obtain the appropriate IP address by examining /etc/hosts, looking for the entry ending
in with "-mp2" .
b. Using the HP BladeChassis Insight Display, select Enclosure Settings > Active OA info >
Standby OA.
c. Change from DHCP to Static IP addressing.
d. Enter the standby OA IP address.
e. Use the same subnet mask as the active OA.
f. Select Accept all and then Accept all again.
2. Disconnect the network connection from the OA port to the Ethernet switch at the top of the rack.
3. Remove the OA module.
4. Replace the OA module.
5. Install the firmware as explained in Upgrading Onboard Administrator.
6. ssh onto the OA using the HP ExDS9100 or Administrator user name.
7. Run the update image command on the OA to reload the firmware. The URL is:
http://<exdsadmin-ip>:9070/fw/<filename>
where <exdsadmin-ip> is the IP address of the exdsadmin virtual host and <filename> is
the name of the firmware file.
NOTE:
The OA will reset itself automatically.
