EVM Support for Volume Groups and
HP Tru64 UNIX AdvFS Domains
A volume group (IBM AIX and HP-UX) or a domain (HP Tru64 UNIX) is a set of one
or more physical volumes from which space can be allocated to one or more logical
volumes or filesets. Volume groups and domains are the minimum containers that
EVM uses for replication.
EVM V2.0D supports the following uses of volume groups and domains:
• Use of Logical Volume Manager (LVM): IBM AIX and HP-UX
• Ability to replicate and mount logical volumes (IBM AIX and HP-UX) and
filesets (HP Tru64 UNIX)
This chapter discusses the following major topics:
• EVM Minimum Requirements for Volume Groups on page 8–1
• Volume Group and Domain Configurations on page 8–2
• Volume Groups and Windows 2000 Dynamic Disks on page 8–8
• EVM Limitations for HP Tru64 UNIX Domains page 8–8
• EVM Limitations for HP-UX Logical Volume Manager on page 8–8
• EVM Limitations for IBM AIX Logical Volume Manager on page 8–9
EVM Minimum Requirements for Volume Groups
The following are minimum requirements for the use of volume groups and domains
in an EVM network:
• All storage must be part of a StorageWorks HSG-based storage system or a
StorageWorks HSV-based storage system.
• HSG and HSV devices should not be mixed in a volume group, domain, or single
EVM job.
