Enterprise Volume Manager (Multi-OS) Version 2.0D Network Administration Guide

514 Enterprise Volume Manager (Multi-OS) Network Administration Guide
Configuring the EVM Network
Recommended Browser and JRE
For best viewing results with EVM, HP recommends browsing from a supported
version of Internet Explorer and JRE plug-in.
Browsing from HP-UX Computers
To browse to EVM from an HP-UX computer, EVM requires a combination of
Netscape (6.2.1 or 6.2.3) and JRE 1.3.1_02. The Open SAN Manager, however,
requires Netscape 4.79. This requires the installation of two instances of Netscape.
Selecting a Supported EVM-SAN Configuration
The planning recommendations in this guide are intended as guidelines only. Refer to
the documentation that came with the StorageWorks storage system for detailed
information on supported SAN configurations.
A valid EVM-SAN configuration is one in which one or more host computers are
connected by Fibre Channel to StorageWorks storage systems. EVM is compatible
only with multibus failover SAN configurations and Switched Fabric Fibre Channel
environments.
Select an EVM-SAN configuration that best supports the purpose of your EVM
network. See EVM Network Configuration Rules on page 519 for a summary of
EVM network configuration rules.
The following examples show some possible configurations and their objectives.
Follow the rules in this chapter when you implement your configuration.
Example 1: EVM Host Agent on One Host Computer
The configuration in Figure 51 is good for providing nearline storage and tape
backups of volumes on StorageWorks storage systems. Only two installations of EVM
are required to create this configuration (EVM server on a Management Appliance
and EVM host agent on a host computer).
