Configuring the EVM Network
Browsing Computer Requirements
You can browse to the EVM graphical user interface from any computer that has a
valid network connection. A computer does not need to have an EVM host agent
installed to be able to browse to EVM.
Because the EVM graphical user interface uses Java applets, the browsing computer
must have the required browser and Java Runtime Environment (JRE) plug-in.
Table 5–12 provides browser and JRE versions for each supported operating system.
Table 5–12: Browser Computer Requirements
Windows JRE Security Issue
The 1.3.1_01 version of the Windows JRE has a security vulnerability; customers may
elect to upgrade the JRE to avoid this security risk. For further information, refer to
Sun Microsystems’ Security Bulletin Archive, Bulletin 218 at the website
http://www.sunsolve.sun.com/pub-cgi/secBulletin.pl.
JRE Detection and Download from EVM
When first browsing to EVM from a computer that does not have the required JRE
plug-in, EVM generates a warning message and prompts you to download the
required JRE directly from EVM. Once the JRE is successfully installed, EVM allows
browsing to the graphical user interface. JRE installation instructions are included in
the EVM Host Agent Installation Guides.
