Linux Hardware Matrix for HP Workstations
HP xw4300 Workstation
Originally certified with RHEL 3 Update 5 (x86 & x86_64), and RHEL4 Update 1 (x86 & x86_64)
This page is not complete without the General Notes (first page of the matrix).
footnote 10 - For RHEL3 U5, download the ALSA Sound Support softpaq from http://www.hp.com/support/xw4300. For RHEL4, use the built-in ALSA Sound Support.
footnote 11 - Not orderable integrated into systems. Order AMO (After Market Only) kit.
footnote 2 - Get the latest drivers and "HP Installer Kit for Linux - HP Driver CD for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 Update 5" ISO images from http://www.hp.com/support/xw4300. Under
Download options
, select Get drivers, software & firmware. To locate the 'Install Guide for Red Hat Linux on HP Linux Workstations', select Manuals and then select Setup and install -
general.
footnote 4 - Linux growisofs supports DVD+RW on Red Hat EL WS 3 or later. For drives that have the Lightscribe functionality, the labeling functionality is not supported.
footnote 1 - Localization supported: (ABA US English, ABC French Canadian, ABD Germany, ABE Spain, ABF France, ABG Australia, ABU UK English, ABJ Japan, AB2 China (PRC), AB4
Singapore/ Malaysia, ABZ Italy, AB5 Hong Kong, ACF Japan-English, ACJ India-English, AB0 Taiwan, AK6 Europe A4, AC0 Belgium, ABS Sweden, ABB Int'l English).
footnote 3 - 285 NVS PCI card may be used alone or with another card. See instructions at http://hp.com/support/linux_user_manual -> 'Multi-Monitor Configurations on HP Linux
Workstations'.
footnote 5 - Mixed hard drives are not offered on the preload. Use SATA or SCSI, not both. We do offer mixed drives on the HPIKL (FreeDos) configuration.
footnote 6 - Hardware RAID is not supported on Linux systems; this includes the Promise SATA RAID Card, Onboard SATA Chipset RAID, Adaptec 2120S SCSI RAID Card,
LSI 20320 A-R SCSI Card, Onboard SCSI Chipset RAID. The Linux kernel, with built-in software RAID, provides excellent functionality and performance. It is a good alternative to hardware-
based RAID.
footnote 7 - The xw4300 can support up to 4 SATA drives. To support the 3rd and 4th SATA drives, you must acquire the Optical Bay Conversion Kit for each drive.
footnote 8 - The ATI v5100 is not supported due to Vesa driver issues during install. Please refer to the Release Notes Chapter in http://www.hp.com/support/linux_user_manual for instructions
on how to install the ATI driver.
footnote 9 - Keyboard/Mouse interface must be either PS2 or USB; mixing is not supported.
