In the LEED Rating System for Existing Buildings there are four credit points available (in the
Materials and Resources section) that may be impacted by HP products and recycling services.
The following are descriptions of the four credit points with comments and links to resources
for the applicable HP oerings:
MR Credit 1
(1 point) Sustainable purchasing – ongoing consumables (paper, toner cartridges, cardboard, etc.)
At least 60% of total purchases by cost meet one or more of the following:
1) Contain at least 10% post consumer and/or 20% post industrial material.
2) Contain at least 50% rapidly renewable materials. Does not apply to HP Consumables.
3) Contain at least 50% materials harvested/extracted and processed within 500 miles of the
project. Does not apply to HP Consumables.
4) Consist of at least 50% Forest Stewardship Council certied paper products.
HP Everyday Photo Paper, HP Advanced Photo Paper, HP Premium Plus Photo Paper,
HP Multipurpose Paper, HP Recycled Paper, HP Bright White Inkjet Paper, HP Premium Choice
Laser Paper, HP LaserJet Paper; HP Brochure Paper, glossy; HP Premium Presentation Paper,
glossy; HP tri-fold Brochure Paper, glossy are FSC certied and count toward the 50% target.
5) Batteries are rechargeable.
All HP batteries, sold as accessories, are rechargeable.
MR Credit 2
(1 applicable point) Sustainable purchasing – durable goods
At least 40% of total purchases are ENERGY STAR® qualied:
Many HP products are ENERGY STAR® qualied and would count toward the 40% target for
durable goods. A current list of HP products that are ENERGY STAR® qualied can be found
at hp.com/go/energystar
MR Credit 7
(2 points) Solid waste management – ongoing consumables
Reuse, recycle or compost 50% of the ongoing consumables waste stream:
Recycling of HP Inkjet and LaserJet cartridges as well as Large Format Banner/Media through
HP Planet Partners program would count toward the 50% goal for ongoing consumables.

MR Credit 8
(2 points) Solid waste management – durable goods
Reuse or recycle 75% of the durable goods waste stream:
Recycling HP hardware through HP’s Computer Hardware recycling programs would count
toward the 75% target for durable goods. Information on HP’s hardware recycling
