Edge control
Edge Control determines how a document's edges are rendered. Edge Control consists of three
components:
Adaptive Halftoning. This component increases the sharpness of the edge.
Trapping. This component reduces the effect of color plan misregistration by slightly overlapping
the edges of adjacent objects.
Color Resolution Enhancement technology (C-REt) (. This component increases the apparent
resolution by placing each dot for the smoothest edges.
The Edge Control option offers four settings:
Off. The Off setting turns Trapping, Adaptive Halftoning, and (C-REt) to Off.
Light. The Light setting provides minimal trapping. Adaptive Halftoning is set to On and (C-
REt) is set to On.
Normal. The Normal setting provides the default trapping settings. Adaptive Halftoning is set to
On, and C-REt is set to On.
Maximum. The Maximum setting provides the most trapping. Adaptive Halftoning is set to On,
and C-REt is set to On.
Half tone
The Halftone setting controls the selection of a product-dependent halftone algorithm that is embedded
in the product firmware. Halftoning is a method by which the product mixes the four primary colors (cyan,
magenta, yellow, and black) in varying proportions to create millions of colors. The Halftone options
affect the resolution and clarity of the color on the printed page. You can select Halftone settings for
text, graphics, and photographs independently.
The following Halftone options are available:
Detail. This is the default option. It is useful for text and graphics that require sharp distinctions
among lines or colors, or for images that contain a pattern or a high level of detail. Choose this
option for sharp edges and detail.
Smooth. This option provides better results for large, solid-filled print areas. It also enhances
photographs by smoothing out fine color gradations. Choose this option for uniform and smooth
area fills.
Text, Graphics, Photographs
Use the Text, Graphics, and Photographs settings groups to control the Neutral Grays settings for
color printing.
