XISL Notes:
All logical switches using the XISL will use the same routing method as defined in the base switch. The best practice
is to define the same routing method in the logical switches using the XISLs.
The XISLs cannot be managed through CUP and therefore no statistical information regarding the XISLs is returned to
RMF for the FICON Director Activity Report.
Only Fibre Channel ISLs and ICLs are supported in the base switch. IP ports (VE ports) are not supported in the base
switch; however, a physical GE or XGE interface can be put in the default switch with circuits defined in different
logical switches with the minimums and maximums set to produce the same result.
Important Notes on FICON Support
The 10-bit addressing mode is not supported in a FICON environment.
See “Fabric OS Upgrade and Downgrade Special Considerations (page 28) section of the
release notes when planning an upgrade to a fabric that includes the HP 1606 SAN Extension
Switch or has any HP DC SAN Director Multiprotocol Extension Blade in an HP StorageWorks
DC SAN Backbone Director, HP StorageWorks DC04 SAN Director Switch, or HP SN8000B
SAN Director switches.
CommentsArea
There are special configuration considerations for environments with three or more switches
(domain IDs) in a FICON fabric. Contact HP technical support to ensure proper configuration.
Cascading
Fiber ICL configurations (with HP SN8000B SAN Directors) supported for FICON are the
same as the supported configurations for copper ICLs (with HP StorageWorks DC SAN
Backbone Director and HP StorageWorks DC04 SAN Director).
Cascading
Encryption and compression is supported on IP links but not on Fibre Channel ISLs.Cascading
The switch name is replaced with underscores ( ____ ) after the first time CUP (FMS mode) is
enabled. Use the switch configuration panels to reset the switch name.
CUP
VEX ports are not supported on the HP 1606 SAN Extension Switch and HP DC SAN Director
Multiprotocol Extension Blade in a FICON environment.
FCIP
When performing multiple cabling changes to the SAN fabric in a FICON Emulating FCIP
Tunnel configuration with the HP 1606 SAN Extension Switch or HP DC SAN Director
FCIP
Multiprotocol Extension Blade, either disable all of the FCIP Tunnels, or issue the switch disable
