Fabric OS compatibility “Supported Fabric OS versions” (page 10) lists the earliest versions of software supported in this release, that is, the earliest supported software versions that interoperate. HP recommends using the latest software versions to get the greatest benefit from the SAN. When using the Virtual Fabrics (VF) feature, HP recommends that you use all switches participating in a fabric with a logical switch use the latest firmware available.
D_Port • Fabric OS 7.0.0a or later supports the execution of D_Port tests concurrently on up to eight ports on the switch. • Support of D_Port is extended to R_RDY flow control mode. The R_RDY mode is useful for active DWDM links that do not work in VC_RDY or EXT_VC_RDY flow control modes. • A new sub-option -dwdm is added to portcfgdport --enable CLI to configure D_Port over active DWDM links.
• The System Card feature requires a compatible DCFM or HP Network Advisor release that supports this feature: DCFM 10.4 or later for pre-Fabric OS 7.0.0a and Network Advisor 11.1 or later for Fabric OS 7.0.0a or later. All nodes in the EG must be running Fabric OS 6.3.0 or later for system verification to be properly supported. • The HP StorageWorks Encryption SAN Switch and HP StorageWorks DC Switch Encryption FC Blade do not support QoS.
• Special Notes for HP Data Protector backup/restore application: ◦ For the Tape Pool encryption policy specification on Windows Systems, HP Data Protector can be used with tape pool encryption specification only if the following pool label options are used (for other options, behavior defaults to Tape LUN encryption policy): – Pick from Barcode. – User Supplied. A maximum of nine characters.
◦ A tunnel configuration on 1GE ports that has more than 4 circuits ◦ Teradata emulation ◦ Circuits configured explicitly to be listeners or initiators FCoE/CEE (HP 2408 FCoE Converged Network Switch and HP DC SAN Director 10/24 FCoE Blade) 22 • When upgrading an HP 2408 FCoE Converged Network Switch or an HP StorageWorks DC SAN Backbone Director Switch/HP StorageWorks DC04 SAN Director Switch with one or more HP DC SAN Director 10/24 FCoE Blades from Fabric OS 6.x to Fabric OS 7.0.

and LSAN zoning, the switch is unresponsive for some time. This is due to the CNA sending excessive MS queries to the switch. • The HP 2408 FCoE Converged Network Switch and HP DC SAN Director 10/24 FCOE Blade can handle 169 small FCoE frames in bursts. If you are using the HP 2408 FCoE Converged Network Switch or HP DC SAN Director 10/24 FCOE Blade, and you delete a large number of V_Ports with HCM, some of the V_Ports may not appear to be deleted.
FL_Port (Loop) Support • FL_Port is not supported on HP SN8000B 16 Gb 32-port FC Blade, HP StoreFabric SN6500B 16Gb FC Switch, HP SN8000B 16 Gb 48-port FC Blade, the HP SN6000B 16 Gb FC Switch, and the HP SN3000B 16 Gb FC switch. • The HP StorageWorks SAN Director 48-port 8 Gb FC Blade and HP StorageWorks DC SAN Director 64-port 8 Gb FC Blade support attachment of loop devices.
Port Mirroring Port Mirroring is not supported on the Brocade HP 1606 SAN Extension Switch. Port Statistics On the FC switch ports of 16 Gb/s switch platforms, the enc_in (number of encoding errors inside of frames) and enc_out (number of encoding errors outside of frames) counters are not updated when a port is operating at either 10 Gb/s or 16 Gb/s speeds. This is due to the different encoding scheme used at 10 Gb/s and 16 Gb/s speeds when compared to 8 and 4 Gb/s speeds.
Miscellaneous • When using a Windows anonymous FTP server for supportsave collection, to avoid long delays or failure of simultaneous supportsave collections when AP blades are present in a director chassis, the number of unlimited anonymous users for a Windows FTP server should be configured as follows: Number of anonymous FTP connections = (Number of director chassis) + (Number of installed Application Blades x 3) • RASlog message AN-1010 may be displayed occasionally indicating Severe latency bottlene
Fabric OS feature compatibility in native connectivity modes Some earlier versions of Fabric OS supported E_Port connectivity with M-EOS-based products. With the introduction of HP Network Advisor, DCFM has been put into sustaining mode. Recommended migration paths to Fabric OS 7.1.1a Migrating from Fabric OS 7.0.0x Any 8 Gb/s or 16 Gb/s platform running any Fabric OS 7.0.0x release can be non-disruptively upgraded to Fabric OS 7.1.1a.
Firmware activation on an HP 1606 Extension Switch, or HP DC SAN Backbone Director Switch/HP DC04 SAN Director Switch or HP SN8000B 8-Slot or 4-Slot Directors with an HP DC SAN Director Multiprotocol Extension Blade installed will be disruptive to I/O traffic on FCIP links. Disruptive upgrades to Fabric OS 7.1.0a and later are allowed and supported from Fabric OS 6.4x (up to a two-level migration) using the optional -s parameter with the firmwaredownload command.

Issuing either a switch disable or an FCIP Tunnel disable command allows the FCIP FICON Emulation processing state-machine to execute an orderly cleanup process and allow normal activation of the new configuration. When all cabling and Traffic Isolation Zone manipulations have been completed, enable the switches or the FCIP Tunnels.
Area Comments Virtual Fabrics Contact HP technical support before attempting to enable Virtual Fabrics or use the XISL (Base Switch ISL) capability. Virtual Fabrics If a port is assigned a port address of 0xFE in an Open System logical switch, an RSCN is sent by Fabric OS on behalf of port address 0xFE during CP failover or firmware download. This may result in an IFCC for any FCP channel running traffic to port address 0xFE.
Platforms operating with Fabric OS 6.4.2a, 7.0.0c or 7.0.0d may be managed with HP B-series Network Advisor 12.0.2 or later. The following platforms are not supported for interoperability in fabrics with switches using Fabric OS 7.
