HP B-series Fabric OS 7.1.0_blv Release Notes (5697-2827, September 2013)
condition via a RASlog message, which helps users to diagnose and resolve this problem
quickly.
• Ability to assign names to logical fabrics: The fabric naming feature allows users to assign a
user-friendly name to identify and manage a logical fabric.
• No direct E_Port support with legacy M-series (McDATA) switch: This release supports only
interopmode 0 and does not support interoperability with an M-series (McDATA) switch via
direct E_Port connectivity. FCR can be used to establish connectivity between a fabric with an
M-series switch and a fabric with a Fabric OS 7.x switch.
Additional RAS and Diagnostics Enhancements
• Spinfab enhancements: The spinfab diagnostics utility has been enhanced to test ISLs at higher
link utilization by using all buffers available at a port. This feature is supported on both 8
Gbps and 16 Gbps FC platforms.
• Frame Viewer: This feature, introduced in Fabric OS 7.0, is intended to provide more visibility
to SAN administrators regarding discarded frames due to timeout. This feature is supported
both on 8 Gbps and 16 Gbps platforms.
• Port Decommission: This feature provides users with the ability to non-disruptively remove an
ISL from service. When an ISL is selected for decommissioning, the switches communicate with
each other to coordinate the movement of flows off of the ISL to alternative paths. Once the
flows are moved to alternative paths, the switches block the E_Ports associated with the ISL
being decommissioned to complete the decommission process.
• Firmware History Log: Creates a log that tracks the firmware versions installed on a switch.
The firmware history log retains details of up to the last 20 versions of firmware installed on
a switch. This log is available from and stored on the switch.
• Ability to assign longer port names: Allows users to assign a port name up to 128 characters,
which is an increase from the 32-character allowance supported in versions earlier than Fabric
OS 7.x releases.
• Fabric OS version in Auditlog message header: Includes the Fabric OS version in Auditlog
messages to enable users to identify the Fabric OS version that generated a specific Auditlog.
Licensed software
The following licenses are pre-installed on the Brocade 16Gb/28 SAN Switch Pwr Pk+ for HP
BladeSystem c-Class:
• Brocade Ports on Demand allows customers to instantly scale the fabric by provisioning
additional ports through license key upgrade (applies to select models of switches).
As mentioned above, this Brocade 8 and 16 Gb SAN Switch for HP BladeSystem c-Class
12-port Upgrade LTU license comes pre-installed on the Brocade 16Gb/28 SAN Switch Pwr
Pk+ for HP BladeSystem c-Class and also comes pre-installed on the Brocade 16Gb/28 SAN
Switch for HP BladeSystem c-Class. For the Brocade 16Gb/16 SAN Switch for HP BladeSystem
c-Class, this license can be applied to activate additional ports on the switch.
• Brocade Extended Fabrics provides greater than 10 km of switched fabric connectivity at full
bandwidth over long distances (depending on the platform, this can be up to 3000 km).
This license is available as an option and can be applied to the Brocade 16Gb/16 SAN
Switch for HP BladeSystem c-Class and the Brocade 16Gb/28 SAN Switch for HP BladeSystem
c-Class switch models.
