HP StorageWorks Fabric Manager 5.x Administrator Guide (AA-RUQSF-TE, September 2005)
144 Switch configuration and management
7. Click Next.
The target switches are checked to ensure they have Fabric OS 5.0.1 or later installed. If any switch
does not have the supported Fabric OS version, you are given the option to remove that switch from the
list or to cancel the replicate operation.
If no errors are found, the Configuration window opens.
8. Review the information on the screen and click Back to make changes or Print to print the information.
9. Click Finish.
The target switches are updated. A progress bar indicates the status. When done, the Summary
window opens.
10.Click Close.
Designating a core switch
This procedure applies only to core-edge topologies.
All switches defined in the FCS policy of a secure fabric are considered core switches. Any switches with
devices attached to them are considered edge switches. See Table 12 on page 73 for additional
information.
To assign a core switch manually:
1. Select a fabric from the SAN Elements tab that you want to designate as a core switch.
2. In the Content pane, right-click in the At-A-Glance window of the switch in the Overview view and
select Core Switch from the context menu.
3. To confirm the new core designation, view the fabric in which the switch resides in the Topology view.
4. Select the core-edge layout in Topology view and verify that the switch is displayed as a core switch.
Saving switch configuration files
Fabric Manager lets you back up the entire configuration file from one switch or from a set of switches.
Fabric Manager uploads the entire configuration file from the selected switches and stores them in
individual files. Files are named with the convention cfg_fabricName_switchName_domainID. For
example, cfg_msit_ref_ulys_FMUly_24_14.
You can restore these files to switches using CLI, Advanced Web Tools, or Fabric Manager.
NOTE: There are some limitations to restoring these files using Fabric Manager. Some data may not be
downloaded even though they exist in the configuration files. The limitation is dependent on the Fabric
OS being used. For more information, see the HP StorageWorks Fabric OS 5.x release notes.
To save the switch configuration files:
1. Select Configuration > Save Config Files from Switches.
The Select a Folder window opens (Figure 84).
