• The SAS BL Switch and the connected SAS storage are configured using drive bay zone
groups. The group of drive bays is presented to the c-Class enclosure blade port (server bay)
as if it was directly connected to that server bay.
NOTE: Unpopulated drive bays in the storage enclosure can be included in a zone group,
to help plan for future growth.
• The server bay that needs access to drive bays must be assigned to the appropriate zone
group.
◦ A server bay can be assigned multiple zone groups.
◦ A drive-bay zone group can be assigned to only one server bay.
◦ Unpopulated server bays can be assigned zone groups.
• Disk drives in the storage enclosure are configured into logical units (LUNs) using host-based
configuration utilities such as HP Array Configuration Utility (ACU).
Tape devices
When tape devices are attached to the switch:
• The tape device is configured using switch port zone groups. The entire tape device connected
to that switch port is presented to all c-Class enclosure blade ports (server bays) granted access
to the zone group.
NOTE: Unused switch ports can be included in a zone group, to help plan for future growth.
• Server bays that need access to tape devices must be assigned the appropriate zone group.
◦ A server bay can be assigned multiple zone groups.
◦ A switch-port zone group can be assigned to more than one server bay.
◦ Unpopulated server bays can be assigned to a zone group.
