Replacing the failed component
CAUTION:
Components can
be damaged by electrostatic discharge. Use proper anti-static protection as discussed
below..
Always transport and store CRUs in an ESD protective enclosure.
Do not remove t
he CRU from the ESD protective enclosure until you are ready to install it.
Alway s use ESD precautions, such as a wrist strap, heel straps on conductive ooring, and an ESD
protective smock when ha nd ling ESD sensitive equipment.
Avoid touchi
ng the CRU connector pins, leads, or circuitry.
Do not place ESD generating material such as paper or non anti-static (pink) plastic in an ESD
protective enclosure with ESD sensitive equipment.
HP recommends waiting until periods of low storage system activity to replace a component.
When replacing c omponents at the backend of the rack, cabling may obstruct access to the
component. Carefully move any cables out of the way to avoid loosening any connections. In
particular, avoid cable damage that may be caused by:
Kinking or bending.
Disconnecting cables without capping. If uncapped, cable per formance may be impaired by
contact with dust, m etal or other surfaces.
Placing removed cables on the oor or other surfaces, where they may be walked on or
otherwise compressed.

Returning the defective par t
HP species, in the materials shipp ed with a replacement CSR par t, whether the defective
component must be returned to HP. W here required, you must ship the defective component back
to H P within a denedperiodoftime,normallyve (5) business days. The defective component
must be returned with the associated documentation provided in the s hipping m aterial. Failure
to return the defective component may result in HP billing you for the replacement. With a
customer self repair, HP will pay all shipping and component return costs and determine the
courier/carrier to be used.
