6.6 Creating Instance or Database Virtual Copy
Virtual Copies are created at the instance or database level for Microsoft SQL Server. When
Recovery Manager creates a Virtual Copy for an instance, it creates a Virtual Copy of all
databases under that instance including the instance's log and system files. Similarly, when
Recovery Manager creates a Virtual Copy for a database, it creates a Virtual Copy of all virtual
volumes where the database, log, and system files reside to preserve the data for consistency.
To create a virtual copy of an instance:
1 Navigate through the node tree view on the left pane and locate the instance for which a
virtual copy is to be created.
2 Click the instance name and the Create Virtual Copy icon appears on the toolbar. You can
select to create a virtual copy by:
a Click on the Create Virtual Copy icon on the toolbar.
b Right-click on the database node and selecting Create Virtual Copy from the pop-up
menu.
