5.5 Formatting Partitions on a New 3PAR VLUNs
When you create 3PAR VLUNs for use with SQL Server, partition alignments must be
considered.
5.5.1 Windows Server 2003
Prior to formatting the partition on a new 3PAR VLUN, align the starting partition offset using
the
diskpart.exe tool which is included with Windows. Align the offset to 64KB according
to the following article: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd758814.aspx.
To check what the offset is currently set to, use the Microsoft System Information Utility that is
included with Windows:
1 Run the System Information utility by selecting it from Start > Programs >
Accessories System Tools > System Information or by running the command
msinfo32.exe at the command prompt.
2 When the System Information tool is running, go to System Summary > Components
> Disks. The offset will be displayed in bytes for each disk in the system in the Partition
Starting Offset field.
5.5.2 Windows Server 2008
Prior to writing data to the 3PAR VLUN, format new NFTS partitions using the Quick Format
option.
NOTE: The InServ Storage Server source volumes used by the Recovery Manager
must be base volumes. The Recovery Manager cannot use physical copies or
virtual copy snapshots as source volumes.
