FC-AL I/O Modules
Two I/O modules provide the interface between the drive enclosure elements and
the host controllers. See Figure 32 and Figure 33. They route data to and from the
drives using Loop A and Loop B, the dual-loop configuration. For redundancy,
only dual-controller, dual-loop operation is supported. Each controller is
connected to both I/O modules in each drive enclosure.
The I/O modules are functionally identical and similar in appearance, but they are
not interchangeable. See Figure 31. The modules are designed to ensure that you
can install only:
■ The A module (7) at the right end of the enclosure behind drive bay 1.
■ The B module (2) at the left end of the enclosure next to the EMU.
