New server infrastructure to
support growth
MailUp is a multi-channel, web-based direct marketing
application for managing and delivering professional
newsletters, SMS, fax, voicemail and postal mail via a
single console. Customers use the system to monitor and
analyse the eectiveness of marketing campaigns in
real-time and produce detailed reports and graphs rapidly.
“After we decided to focus on our leading product, the
MailUp solution, we experienced exponential growth.
Sta numbers have increased from 12 to 80 over the last
two years and consolidated sales rose by 100 per cent
last year,” explains Matteo Bettoni, chief information
ocer, Nweb Srl. “To maintain this growth rate and
respond quickly to market demand, we needed to
gradually upgrade the ageing server infrastructures within
our data centres, introduce a rapid server deployment
capability and improve system monitoring. We also wanted
to reduce ownership costs and lower the server footprint
whilst boosting performance on a limited budget.”
MailUp (Nweb ownership) approached its existing IT
solutions provider and several other organisations
including C2 Group Srl, an HP Gold Preferred Partner.
With the support of an Italian wholesaler, the C2
Group introduced MailUp (Nweb ownership) to the
HP Renew Program.
“After hearing about the HP Renew Program, we knew we
could now aord reliable, high-quality HP BladeSystem
technology backed by excellent service support. Compared
to alternative solutions such as new hardware, this
attractively-priced option oers better value-for-money
and a sound return on investment,” declares Bettoni.
HP Renew Program
By using the HP Renew Program, MailUp (Nweb ownership)
currently owns several HP BladeSystem c7000 Enclosures
containing 99 remanufactured HP ProLiant BL460c, 35
BL465c and 4 BL685c remanufactured server blades
and moreover 16 remanufactured P4000 SAN series
nodes. Similar to all products in the HP Renew portfolio,
more than 80 per cent of the MailUp (Nweb ownership)
hardware is less than 12 months old whilst all software is
updated to the latest available version. These compact,
energy-ecient devices oer high-performance, high-
availability computing and are ideally suited to MailUp
(Nweb ownership)’s data centres, which had power and
space constraints.
For MailUp (Nweb ownership), the HP Renew Program is an
attractive alternative to procuring new products because
the equipment undergoes the same rigorous quality
assessments and has identical energy-saving features as
new hardware, helping the company to lower its impact on
the environment. MailUp (Nweb ownership) also benets
from the original HP quality, reliability and performance
guarantees regardless of whether the devices employ new
or earlier technology. Moreover, the equipment comes
with the same warranty and support options. HP sources
the hardware from loan equipment, excess factory
production, customer returns and trade-in programs.
MailUp (Nweb ownership) has also implemented HP Insight
Control software and an HP ProLiant Essentials Rapid
Deployment Pack to aid infrastructure management
and the deployment of additional ProLiant servers.
HP Systems Insight Manager allows system administrators
to maximise system availability.
MailUp (Nweb ownership) has replaced its outdated server
infrastructure with more reliable and scalable devices and
realised signicant cost savings, improved sta eciency
and accelerated time-to-market.
“By using the HP Renew Program, we have successfully
replaced 70 per cent of our old hardware and a shift to
blade technology has lowered energy and support costs
by 50 per cent,” says Bettoni. “Within the next year, our
entire server estate will comprise of HP hardware.”
The HP software has simplied the management of the
server estate, saving time and increasing productivity
by releasing IT sta to complete tasks such as product
development. In addition, automated server deployment
has transformed the company’s ability to respond to
market demands by lowering deployment times from
about ve days to one day, providing a competitive edge.
“We now have a real-time installation capability to satisfy
customer expectations. This has improved customer
service levels considerably and will play an important role
whilst the company continues to penetrate new markets,”
concludes Bettoni.
