Certis CISCO
Case study | Certis CISCO
Following the tender process, Certis decided
to go with the HP proposed solution, which is
based on the DB2 database software
running on HP-UX. The hardware includes
HP Integrity rx2800 i4 based on the Itanium
processor, with HP 3PAR 7200 Storage and
an HP StoreOnce 4420 D2D Backup System.
HP provides support through its Mission
Critical Services, which deliver proactive
and reactive responses to ensure 24x7
availability. HP also assigned a dedicated
Account Support Manager (ASM) for Certis.
Accelerating migration from AIX
HP helped Certis to migrate its
SAP environment from AIX to HP-UX,
and also to upgrade SAP at the same
time. Chew comments, “The solution
that HP proposed met all our requirements,
and they assisted me in improving some
aspects of the SAP system and minimising
the risk on migration, which was helpful.
“The migration was originally expected
to take about four days to complete,”
says Chew. “The HP basis consultant was
able to reduce the downtime drastically
to only 20 hours, which we could do
over a weekend.
“TheHPconsultantachievedthisbynding
a way to make import and export work in
parallel rather than sequentially. By changing
some of the parameters to increase the block
size, the export ran faster,” explains Chew.
“The HP support team did a good job through
the migration, and they were able to address
issueseciently,respondquicklyand
resolve our problems,” says Chew.
“I was very impressed.
“The HP and AIX management software
are both similar, operating on a command
line basis,” says Chew. “So when we
moved to HP-UX, managing the system
was almost identical to AIX, which helped
us enormously.”

Faster performance
“Overall, I am happy with the performance
of the new system, and the average
response time is faster now,” says Chew.
“After migration, a lot of users didn’t know
we had moved to new hardware, but they
were impressed with the system’s speed.
“Our users can now put in more selection
criteria and retrieve more records at
one time,” says Chew. “With the new
infrastructure, they now have increased
