To cleanthe outsideof the machine,
wipe off dirtwith a cloth dampenedin
warm water and mild detergent,Do not
use solvent or petroleum based prod-
ucts to clean the machine.

Move speed selectorto LO for gentle
cleaningor Hi for normalcleanlng.
Dry handsand plug cordintoa properly
groundedoutlet,
Do not clean over floor electricalout-
lets.
To avoidwalkingon dampcarpet,start
at theend of the roomfarthestfrom the
dooror pathto sinkwheretankswill be
emptiedandfilled.
Step on handlereleasepedalandlower
handleto operatingposition;turn deep
cleanerON.
Squeeze biggerto releasecleaning
and slowly push deep
cleanerforward(equalsone wet stroke).
Continueto squeezetriggerand slowly
pulldeepcleanerbacktowardyou (sec-
end wet stroke).Releasetriggerand
slowlypushdeep cleanerforward over
areajust sprayedwithsolution(dry
stroke).Thenslowly pull deep cleaner
backtowardyouwithoutsqueezingtrig-
ger (drystroke).
Overlapstrokesby 1 inch to help pre-
vent streaking.
Keepnozzleflat on floor for bothfor-
ward and reversestrokes.
For heavilysoiledareas, repeat.To
avoid saturatingcarpet, do not use
more than 4 wet strokes over one
area. Always end with dry strokes.
It is bestto alternatewet and dry
strokesas describedabove.
Forbestcleaningresultsand to aid in
fasterdryingof carpet,end with more
dry strokes.(Continueusing dry strokes
untillittlewateris visiblepassing
throughthe recoverytank lid.)
Emptyrecoverytankwhen the motor
sound becomeshigherpitchedand
there isa lossin suction(see
'Automaticshut-off",page7)
Whenfinishedcleaning,follow "After
cleaning' instructionson pages 810.
YourHOOVERSteamVac deepcleaner
may also be usedto pick up smallliq-
uid spills (1 gallon or less, never to
exceed 114 inch in depth)on carpet,,
upholstery, or bare floors.
For bestresults,pick up spills immedi-
atelyby placingthe stair/upholstery
nozzlejust abovethe spill and suction
up anyresidueon top of the carpet,if
the spill remains,place eitherthe stair/
upholsterynozzle or floornozzlewith
brushesturned OFFinfront ofthespill,
pullthe nozzlevery slowlyoverthe spill
initiallywithsuction only.Repeatwithspray
andsuction.
When up onbareaoors,
useonlythe floornozzlewiththebare
inpiaceend

How to attach bare floor
attachment (some models)
Disconnectdeep cleaner from electri-
eal outlet.
To preventpossibleleaking,remove
clean solutiontank and recoverytank
beforepositioningbare attachment.
Referto Fig. 28 to removecleansolu-
tiontank. Set tank aside(do notset
tankon furniture).
Referto Fig. 35 to removerecovery
tank.
With handlein uprightposition,tilt
cleanerbackso thathandlerestson
thefloor.
[_ ith foam strip (A) (located under
the netting) in position as shown.
place attachment on front of nozzle (8).
Make sure arrow on end of attachment
points in the direction as shown.

Pushattachment against nozzle while
rotating attachment downward until
both ends snap into place.
(Note: Some force may be required to
rotate and snap attachment into place.)
Returndeepcleanerto uprightposition.
Lowerhandle and replace recovery
tank.
Raisehandle to upright position and
reposition clean solution tank.
To clean floor

Do not use the SteamVac deep clear,-
er on hardwood floors.
Fillclean solution tank with HOOVER
BareFloorCleaner (available at additional
