7 Commissioning
Before commissioni ng the detector the local standards of aspi r ating detection systems must be consulted.
These standards di ff er widely thr oughout the world and specif ic adv ic e for the mar k et in one count ry may
not be applicabl e to anot her .
Commissioning st r ategy will i nitially depend upon t he env ironment in whi c h the det ec tor is installed. For
inst anc e, the test for a comput er r oom (which should be a relatively clean env ir onm ent) would be very
different f r om, say, a flour mill , which would probably have a high l ev el of airborne parti c ulate cont ent.
A widely accepted standard for comput er room s/E DP areas is British Standar d B S 6266, equipm ent
ov erheating at a stage well before combustion. To perfor m the test elec tric ally overl oad a 1 metre lengt h
of PVC insulated wi r e of 10/ 0.1m m gauge for one minute using an appropr iate power supply. The
detec tor has two minutes fr om the end of the wire burn to give an alarm indi c ation.
For ar eas with higher levels of bac k gr ound par ticul ate m atter testing methodol ogy would be similar to that
of standar d point det ector s.
7.1 Commissioning Checklist
The following brief checklist al lows quick setup of the detect or . Thi s procedur e will be adequate for most
standard installations.
1. Before power ing up the detector, visually check all c abling to ensure correc t connect ion. If wire
identification is not immediately clear (for example, by use of different coloured wir es or wire
identification sleeves) an electrical chec k should be made. Any damage c aused by misconnection of
the detector is not c ov ered by warranty.
2. Power up the unit and connect t o a PC and set t he address switc hes on the detector boar d ( see
section 5.1) and FIREli nk - A PI C boar d if applicabl e ( see section 5.3).
3. Verify that the tim e and date are corr ec t (see section 2.1)
4. Set an appropriate alarm factor for t he pr otected environm ent. The det ec tor will perform a FastLear n
for the new al arm f ac tor. (see sect ion 2.2.6)
5. Whil st the detector i s still in FastLearn mode set t he detector into demonstration mode (see secti on
3.10) .
NOTE: A er osol - type synt hetic smok e sources should not be used to t est the response of the detect or as
these may l eav e aci dic r esi dues which c ould cause damage to the unit.
6. Wait for the FastLearn to finish and the flashing OK LED indicator wil l finish and perform any
necessary smoke tests, ensuring that the detector r eacts appropr iately (within 120 seconds for LPCB
compli anc e) , and let the smoke fully dissipate.
7. Perform another FastLearn, this time not put ting the detector into demonstration mode. The detector
wil l gener ate no alarm s during the 15 m inute FastLearn per iod, and aft er this the detector will oper ate
at a r educ ed sensit ivity for 24 hours whilst Cl assiF ire acclimatises to the protected env ironment and
sets up appropr iate day and night sensitivity settings.
