9 . Adding a m odem
I n Windows XP SP2, you can add a Bluet oot h device that has support for dial-up net working as a m odem . To do t his,
follow t hese st eps:
1.
Click St a r t, click Run, t ype t e leph on.cpl, and then click OK.
2.
On t he M odem s t ab, click Add.
The Sele ct Bluet oot h D e v ice dialog box opens.

Click t o select a Bluet oot h device t o use as a m odem .
I f you configure Windows t o det ect m odem s while a Bluet ooth adapt er is connected, Windows autom atically opens
Select Bluet oot h Device when it det ects a Bluet oot h device t hat has support for dial- up networking.
Aft er you select a device, you can configure t he device by using Ph on e a n d Mode m Opt ions. To connect t o t he
I nternet , you can creat e a new connect ion in t he Net work Connect ions folder.
N ot es on m odem suppor t
•
Windows XP aut om atically generates a passkey for t he connect ion bet ween t he m obile phone and your
com puter. You can use t his passkey or ent er one of your own. Passkeys can have up t o 16 charact ers. The
passkey m ust be ent ered within 30 seconds, or aut henticat ion m ay not succeed.

Som e m obile phones already have a passkey. I f your phone has a passkey, ent er the passkey in t he
Bluet oot h Connect ion Wizard.

Bluet oot h is not a secure wireless technology. Your dat a m ay be visible t o ot her devices or com put ers t hat
are in r ange.

I f your m obile phone does not support dial- up networking, you cannot inst all t he phone by using t he Add
Hardware Wizard. To inst all the phone, use Blu e t oot h De vices.

When a m obile phone is connected as a m odem , it appear s in Device Manager as a m odem .
1 0 . Adding a prin t er
Windows XP SP2 supports Bluetooth printers. You can use the Add Print er Wizard t o access print er features. To
st art the Add Print er Wizard, click St a r t , click Pr int e r s and Fax e s, and then click Add a print e r.
When you select A Bluet oot h print er in t he Add Print er Wizard, your com puter searches for Bluet ooth pr inters.
When your com put er locates a print er , you can select it t o inst all. To install t he printer, you have t o inst all drivers
for t he print er, j ust as you do for any ot her t ype of print er.
When t he print er is inst alled, t he printer port appear s as a Bluet oot h virt ual printer port on t he Por t s tab of the
print er 's Prope r t ies dialog box.
