TrailerStep by HitchMate®
Installation Instructions (No Drilling Required)
Check first to make sure you have all of the components necessary to assemble and install the
TrailerStep by HitchMate®.
There should be:
1 – Black, Powder Coated Step Assembly
1 – Black, Powder Coated Mount Backing Plate
4 – Yellow Zinc Plated Bolts
4 – Yellow Zinc Plated Washers
4 – Yellow Zinc Plated Locknuts
1 – Installation Instructions Sheet
1) Before you install this, consider where best to install the step. Think of the areas where
you need to access the boat as it sets on the trailer and make sure there is adequate
area on the trailer frame to mount the step.
2) Hold the step up against the frame and define how high the step should sit after
installation. Locate the upper holes through which you will feed the top two bolts (one
on each side).
3) Insert the bolts through the top holes of the step assembly first with the round head
facing outward. Insert bolts into the back plate in the holes matching those of the step
assembly. Slide a washer over each bolt and twist the locknut onto the treads until
finger-tight.
4) Place the step partially assembled on the area where you require on the boat trailer
frame and make sure the height level is adequate for you use. Make sure the horizontal
step portion is pointing outward, not towards the boat.
5) Insert the other 2 bolts in the lower holes as close to the bottom of the trailer frame as
is possible. Install washers and nuts as before.
6) Use an appropriate size wrench or socket to tighten all nuts to a snug position on the
trailer.
7) Check again to make sure your placement and height level is correct and then tighten
the nuts to a point where the step is firmly in place and secure with appropriate body
weight.
