1 Information about the documentation 1.1 Explanation of signs used 1.1.1 Warnings Warnings alert persons to hazards that occur when handling or using the product. The following signal words are used in combination with a symbol: DANGER! Draws attention to imminent danger that will lead to serious personal injury or fatality. WARNING! Draws attention to a potentially dangerous situation that could lead to serious personal injury or fatality.
Serial no.: 2 Safety 2.1 Safety instructions The safety rules given in the following section contain all general safety rules for electric tools which, in accordance with the applicable standards, require to be listed in the operating instructions. Accordingly, some of the rules listed may not be relevant to this electric tool. 2.1.1 General power tool safety warnings WARNING Read all safety warnings and all instructions.
Power tool use and care ▶ Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed. ▶ Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
▶ ▶ Observe the national health and safety requirements. Dust from materials, such as paint containing lead, some wood species, concrete / masonry / stone containing silica, and minerals as well as metal, may be harmful. Contact with or inhalation of the dust may cause allergic reactions and/or respiratory or other diseases to the operator or bystanders.
3.2 Use as directed The product described is a cordless reciprocating saw. It is designed for cutting wood, wood-like materials, metals and plastics. The product is designed for two-handed operation. ▶ ▶ Use only Hilti Liion batteries of the B 18 series with this product. Use only the Hilti battery chargers from the C4/36 series for these batteries. 3.3 Possible misuse ▶ ▶ ▶ Do not use the power tool to cut bricks, concrete, cellular concrete, natural stone or tiles.
5 Operation 5.1 Safe operation 2 CAUTION Risk of injury! Inadvertent starting of the product. ▶ Remove the battery before making any adjustments to the power tool or before changing accessories. WARNING Risk of injury! Risk of kickback. ▶ Always use saw blades of adequate length. The end of the saw blade must always project beyond the workpiece over the entire blade stroke.

Check that the battery is securely seated in the reciprocating saw. Push the battery into the product from the rear as far as it will go and until it is heard to engage with a double click. 5.6 Switching on 1. Disengage the transport lock. 2. 4. 5. 6. 7. Pull the AVR contact shoe out. Press the rectangular plastic pin back into the original position. Grease the AVR contact shoe lightly and insert it fully in the guides. Check that the contact shoe has engaged. 6 Care, maintenance, transport and storage 6.1 Care of the reciprocating saw WARNING Electrical hazards. Improper repairs to electrical parts may lead to serious injuries. ▶ ▶ ▶ ▶ Electrical parts may be repaired only by trained electrical specialists.
7.1 The reciprocating saw is not operational. Malfunction The LEDs indicate nothing. Possible cause The battery is not fully inserted. The battery is empty. 1 LED blinks. The transport lock is engaged. Action to be taken ▶ ▶ ▶ The battery is discharged. ▶ The battery is too hot or too cold. ▶ Push the battery in until it engages with a double click. Charge the battery. Disengage the transport lock. Change the battery and charge the empty battery.
