To provide reasonable re safety,the following should be

3. Apracticedevacuationplan,consistingofatleasttwo
escaperoutes.

a. Prepareoccupantsforimmediateevacuation

of igniting and burning, whether ame-proofed or not,

andshouldbeburnedhotenoughtokeepthechimney
hotforaslongasittakestodrythewoodout-aboutone
hour.
• Itisawasteofenergytoburnunseasonedwoodofany
kind.
Deadwoodlyingontheforestoorshouldbeconsideredwet,
andrequiresfullseasoningtime.
• Standingdeadwoodcanbeconsideredtobeabout2/3
seasoned.
• Totellifwoodisdryenoughtoburn,checktheendsof
thelogs.
• Iftherearecracksradiatinginalldirectionsfromthecenter,
itisdry.
• Ifyourwoodsizzlesinthere,eventhoughthesurface
isdry,itmaynotbefullycured.
Donotover-re.
Over-ringmayignitecreosote or willdamage the
stoveandchimney.
Topreventover-ringyourstove,DONOT:
• Useammableliquids
• Overloadwithwood
• Burntrashorlargeamountsofscraplumber
• Permittoomuchairtothere

• Roaring,rumblingnoises
• Loudcrackingorbangingsounds

andevacuateyourhouse.
• Contact your local chimney professional and have
yourstoveandstovepipeinspectedforanydamage.
• Donotuseyourstoveuntilthechimneyprofessional
informsyouitissafetodoso.
