How to Use the "M (L.E.)" Mode The M (L.E.) mode is completelymanual. The meteringsystemis disabled.Thedisplay indicatesthe manualsettings. Suggested procedure: 1. Set the Mode SelectorDial at M. 2. Depress the exposure release button or the AE-lock buttonto start the camera 3. Depress both adjustmentbuttons at the same time to select"longexposure" 4. Determinethe appropriateexposureand set the aperture and the shutter speed manually.The displayshows the letters " M " and " L.E.
WarningFunctions Wheneverthe camerasettingscouldresultin an exposureerror the red warningtriangle flashes. Permanent Warnings The permanent warningfunctionsare built into the system and cannot be changedor disabled. Battery Gapacity Warning When the battery voltage drops below a certainpoint,the batterysymbolis displayed for at least two seconds and the warning triangleflashestwice. NOTE: Batteryrecoverymay cause the battery symbolto disappearafter the two seconds.
Flash Photography Warnings In dedicatedflashphotographythe indication "Hi FLASH"or "Lo FLASH"is displayedtogetherwiththe flashingwarningtriangleand if the flashwas too bright displaybacklighting or if it was insufficient. Thiswarningis on for 2 secondsafter the exposure.
Your 203FE controlsthe flash durationby TTUOTFmetering(TTL= ThroughThe Lens; OTF = Off The Film),i.e. it metersthe light reflectedoff the film and terminatesthe flash when the exposureis correct. There is of course also the possibilityto connectthe flash unit to the PC socket,but then you no longer have the advantageof lettingthe camera system controlthe flash and the exposure. The camera continues to operate in the selectedmodewith the calculatedor pre-set shutterspeed.
. Pre-setflash exposure adjustment-3 to +1 EV through Pr mode (page 42) indicated by the r.h. minusalt. plus sign. . WARNINGS(page58): The sign "Hi FLASH" appears on the displaywhentheflashwastoo bright, e.g. if the flashto-subjectdistanceis short,the cameraaperturelarge,the filmfastor any combination of these.The remediesareto movethe flashawayfrom the subject(use a lenswith longerfocallength),reducethe aperture,changeto a slowerfilm. The sign "Lo FLASH" appearswhen the flash was insufficient to give a correct exposure,e.g. if the flashto-subjectdistanceis too long,the apertureis too small, thefilmtoo slow.

Non-dedicatedFlash Units With a non-dedicatedflash unit you can not take advantage of the sophisticated TTUOTF flash meteringand controlsystem in the 203FEand the viewfinderinformation suppliedbythissystem.Youthenhavetorely on the control system of the flash itself or your own aperturecalculations.
How to use a Non-dedicated Flash Unit Suggested procedure: 1. Connectthe flashto the PC-socketon the camera body and switch it on. 2. Pre-setthe desiredaperture. 3. Use the cameraas describedin any desiredoperatingmode,observingthe shutter in the modesAb, A and D. F-Lenses The F-lensesare optically,mechanically and operationallyidenticalwith the corresponding FE-lensesbut are not equippedwiththeir internalelectronicsand externalidentificafor the FE-lensesare tions.The instructions generally applicablealso to the F-lenses (p a g e3 1 ) . NOTE: With an F-lens on the camera the apefturevalue does not appear in the viewfinder display when the exposure or prerelease button is depressed. Instead the displayshows two dashes (- -).

A thirdgroupof accessoriescan be usedbut will cause certain limitationsto the TCC Winder TheTCCWindermotorizes the203FEfora functions.
E-type Extension Tubes For close-up and macro photographythe E-typeextensiontubeshaveallconnections, both mechanicaland electronical,between camerabody and lens. External Battery Cassette The externalbatterycassetteconnectorreplaces the originalbattery cassette in the batterycompartment.lt providesadditional powerand the extensioncord allowsyou to keepthe batterieswarm in your pocketwhen you are usingthe 203FE in cold conditions.
