CHAPTER 6 COLD STARTING AND RUNNING
The Haltech IG5 has two features to modify ignition timing to aid in starting and running a
cold engine.
The Ignition Crank Map defines the ignition advance at different coolant temperatures during
cranking. The Ignition Coolant Map corrects the base ignition timing by advancing or
retarding the ignition at different coolant temperatures.
6.1 Cold Cranking
The ignition timing can be set for cold cranking. The Crank Ignition Map sets the ignition
timing to be used while cranking according to the coolant temperature. This Map is set flat to
15° at factory, but it can be adjusted to give better starting at all temperatures.
