The trigger indicator flashes when the spark pickup sends a trigger signal to the timing light. Turn the advance knob until the flash indicator just turns on and read the RPM on the advance knob. A reading of 20 would indicate approximately 2,000 RPM.
Timing-Advance Test Procedure - Analog T/L This light measures advance by delaying the flash so that it appears to align the crank shaft TDC mark to its pointer. The indicator knob will display the degrees of advance. 1. Place the Inductive Pickup around the #1 spark plug wire. 2. Prepare the engine for timing tests, such as: warming-up, disabling electric and vacuum control lines, and cleaning the wheel timing marks. Then run the engine.
