REVIEW GUILD SURFLINER £395 Old, new, borrowed and, er, orange. Let’s introduce the Surfliner! T he past couple of years has seen quite a few changes for Guild’s Newark Street Collection of electrics. The main one is price with guitars like the Starfire I thinlines and the chambered Aristocrat HH and P90 dropping into the mid £450-700 area and resulting in an upturn in sales.
T H E GA S STATION Badge Of Honour A classic USA heritage brand that never quite scaled the heights of Gibson G the only thing letting our sample down was a little set-up work and a final fret polish. If you can’t do that yourselves we’d recommend you get it done because this is a really vibey sounding guitar. The LB-1 at bridge sits nicely between a Fender single coil and wider-sounding PAF-style humbucker, there’s bright attack but a little more oomph than a standard single coil.
