PART 1 – GENERAL
1.1 SUMMARY

1.3 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
A. General: Provide fall arrest and/or fall restraint for one (1) person when used in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations and
specifications.
B. Design Requirements: The steel tie down (anchor) shall be designed to be permanently attached to the roof structure and shall allow any/all
workmen to perform roof maintenance, re-roofing and general building maintenance in a safe manner. Contractor shall verify all other safety
components to ensure their compatibility and compliance with all current local, State and Federal Safety Standard requirements.
1.4 SUBMITTALS
A. Product Data: Submit manufacturer’s product data, installation instructions and material description. Submit test
reports.
B. Shop drawings: Show layout and details of anchorage locations. Submit engineering calculations. Submit
fasteners: Type and test data.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.1 MANUFACTURERS

fall restraint, anchor point standards.
2.2 MATERIALS
A. Steel Strap: ASTM B-504 Stainless Steel
B. Steel Eyelet (D-ring): ASTM F-887-84; Drop Forged, 5,000 lbs. proof load, 3/8” X 2” Steel, Zinc Plated
C. Accessories: Fasteners by Illinois Tool Works, Inc (itw) Buildex, Rawl or approved equal. Provide Anchors tested
for substrate and structure quality.
2.3 FABRICATION
A. Description: 2”X24”X20 GA. Stainless steel strap doubled and 1 drop forged “D” ring installed at each end. Doubled straps are secured to each
other by spot welding and a minimum of 8 ¼” holes are punched for use in attaching the anchor to the roof rafter or substrate. Finished size is
2”X12”.
2.4 FINISH
A. Strap shall be stainless steel. “D” rings shall be zinc chromate.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 EXAMINATION
A. Examine framing and roof surface for adequacy and compliance with structural requirements of this
system design.
B. Notify Architect/Engineer of any defects or improper construction prior to commencing any work.
Commencement of work constitutes acceptance of substrate.
3.2 INSTALLATION
A. Secure roof top tie down strap through structural plywood deck and into dimensional lumber rafter with 8 ea.
(four ea. side) 16p Ardox/Spiral nails driven in at an angle to ensure proper penetration. With strap placed equally
on each side of ridge, ridge cap may now be installed.
B. Secure roof top tie down to sheet metal decking with 8 ea. (4 ea. Side) #5 self-drilling fasteners or 8 ea. (four ea.
side) #1/4-14 X 1” stitch Tek fasteners.

Notes:
(1) If installing into existing structure you must be sure of sound rafters and substrate. If unsound, it must be replaced.
(2) 20 ga. Sheet metal decking MINIMUM. If less than 20 ga., ¾” CDX plywood backing is required between rafters.
