Machine vibrates
excessively.
1. Sander not secured properly to stand
(G1014Z) or cabinet (G1014ZX).
2. Stand not stable on floor.
3. Incorrect motor mounting.
4. Idler roller is too loose.
5. Broken/defective sanding belt.
6. End of table support rod touches side of
motor.
1. Tighten fasteners that mount sander to stand
(G1014Z) or cabinet (G1014ZX).
2. Secure stand to floor, reposition to level surface, or
shim stand.
3. Check/adjust motor mounting.
4. Adjust idler roller.
5. Replace sanding belt (see Page 39).
6. Position the table support rod further away from
motor.
Sanded surface not
square.
1. Work table not perpendicular to disc.
2. Miter gauge not square to disc.
3. Work table not perpendicular to belt in verti-
cal position.
1. Adjust work table square to sanding disc (see Page
48).
2. Adjust miter gauge square to disc or belt (Page 27).
3. Adjust work table square to belt in vertical position
(Page 37).
Deep sanding
grooves or scars in
workpiece.
1. Sandpaper too coarse for the desired fin-
ish.
2. Workpiece sanded across the grain.
3. Too much sanding force on workpiece.
4. Workpiece held still against the belt/disc.
1. Use a finer grit sanding belt/disc.
2. Sand with the grain.
3. Reduce pressure on workpiece while sanding.
4. Keep workpiece moving while sanding on the belt/
disc.
Grains rub off the
belt or disc easily.
1. Sanding belt/disc has been stored in an
incorrect environment.
2. Sanding belt/disc has been folded or
smashed.
1. Store sanding belt/disc away from extremely dry or
hot temperatures.
2. Store sanding belt/disc flat, not folded or bent.
Sanding surfaces
clog quickly or burn.
1. Too much pressure against belt/disc.
2. Sanding softwood, or stock has surface
residue.
1. Reduce pressure on workpiece while sanding.
2. Use different stock. Or, accept the characteristics of
the stock and plan on cleaning or replacing belts or
discs frequently.
Burn marks on
workpiece.
1. Using too fine of sanding grit.
2. Using too much pressure.
3. Work held still for too long.
1. Use a coarser grit sanding belt/disc.
2. Reduce pressure on workpiece while sanding.
3. Do not keep workpiece in one place for too long.
Glazed sanding
surfaces.
1. Sanding wet stock.
2. Sanding stock with high residue.
1. Dry stock properly before sanding.
2. Use different stock. Or, accept the characteristics of
the stock and plan on cleaning/replacing belts/discs
frequently.
Workpiece frequent-
ly gets pulled out of
your hand.
1. Not supporting the workpiece against the
stop.
2. Starting the workpiece on a leading corner.
1. Use back stop or miter gauge to support workpiece.
2. Start workpiece on a trailing corner.
Belt slips on rollers. 1. Quick release tension lever not engaged.
2. Belt tension not sufficient.
1. Engage quick release tension lever.
