Illuminance Measurement with Sensor MAVOLUX 5032 B USB
Application
The sensor is suitable for precisely ascertaining
illuminance
in the
units of measure lux and footcandles. With an adapter which is
available as an accessory, the MAVOLUX 5032 B
USB
can also be
used to measure
luminance
in cd per square meter or footlamberts.
The light sensitive receiver is color corrected, i.e. its spectral
sensitivity is matched to that of the human eye V() in accordance
with DIN 5032, part 7, class B.
The correction filters are integrated into the measuring probe. All
important types of light can thus be measured very accurately,
without having to take correction factors into consideration.
In order to assure that even obliquely incident light is correctly
evaluated, the measuring instrument includes integrated cosine
correction.
Even minimal light can be measured, e.g. for emergency lighting
systems.
Notes Regarding Correct Measurement
Make sure that the light receiving surface is fully and uniformly illu-
minated (e.g no shadows from hands or body). Hold the measur-
ing probe parallel to the surface to be evaluated if you want to
measure illumination of the respective surface (e.g. workstation il-
lumination).
Please note that:
– Artificial light sources do not reach full power until after a
lengthy run-up time. If at all possible, switch them on 15
minutes before measurement is performed for this reason.
– Light output from light sources depends upon line voltage.
Check line voltage.
Further notes regarding illuminance measurement are included in
the appendix on page 143.
