Applied Parts Leakage current
Definition
Equivalent patient leakage current is current which flows through
the conductors of the device, which are connected to each other
(L/N/PE), to the patient ports.
Prerequisite
A high-impedance power supply is connected between one patient
port at a time and the exposed metallic parts of the housing (which
are connected to each other). The mains terminals are short-cir-
cuited and are connected to the same point on the housing.
Measurement
The current which flows over the insulation of the device under
test is measured separately for each application part.
Measurement is always performed using an AC source with cur-
rent limiting. Differing mains voltages are taken into consideration.
Parameters
• Measuring range: 30 mA, 3 m A, 300 A or auto
(automatic switching amongst the ranges)
• Test voltage Ut: 110 V ... 240 V
• Test frequency ft: 400 Hz, 200 Hz, 60 Hz or 50 Hz
• Measurement duration: 5 s, 10 s, 15 s, 30 s or continuous
• Measurement type: equivalent patient leakage current (ts)
(via test socket and probe)
Equivalent Leakage Current Measuring Method
DUT mains plug connected to the test socket
Probe connected to sockets 1 and 2
