10.2 Testing Devices in Accordance with DIN VDE 0701-0702
In accordance with DIN VDE 0701-0702 regulations, repaired or
modified electrical devices must provide users with the same de-
gree of safety against the dangers of electrical energy as is also
the case for new devices. The following tests must be executed in
the order specified below to this end:
1. Visual inspection
2. Protective conductor resistance
3. Insulation characteristics:
if technically reasonable, i.e. if the DUT does not include
any electrically actuated, all-pole switches:
– Insulation resistance followed by protective conductor
or equivalent leakage current
– Otherwise: leakage current during operation
(protective conductor current and contact current)
Safety extra-low voltage (only at point of connection
of safety extra-low voltage generated in the DUT)
4. Function test
5. Labeling inspection
6. Documentation
Visual inspection is performed before metrological testing is
executed, and includes the following points:
• Damage to the connector cables
• Damage to the insulation
• Correct selection and use of cables and plugs
• Condition of the mains plug, the connector terminals and wires
• Defective cable bending guard
• Defective connector cable stress relief
• Condition of mounts, cable retainers, the fuse holder which is
accessible to the user etc.
• Damage to the housing and the safety covers
• Signs of overloading, as well as improper use or operation
• Signs of impermissible tampering or modifications
• Contamination, corrosion or aging which impermissibly impairs
safety
• Contamination or clogging of openings required for cooling
• Condition of air filters
• Leak-proof containers for water, air or other media, condition
of pressure relief valves
• Operability of switches, controllers, adjusting devices etc.
• Legibility of all labels and symbols with safety functions, as well
as rated values
• and position indicators
• Good legibility of labeling required for safety
(e. g. warning symbols, protection class, characteristic fuse
data, switch positions for disconnectors).
