Initial Start-Up – Setup
4 Initial Start-Up
4.1 Connection to the Mains (90 to 264 V, 45 to 65 Hz)
Ð Connect the test system to the mains with the mains plug as
shown in the figure. The mains plug symbol appears in the
header.
Charging the Battery Pack
Ð Initial start-up: Make sure that the battery pack is properly in-
serted and connected (see section 4.2 regarding installation of
the battery pack).
If a battery pack has been installed, it is recharged automatically
as soon as a specified threshold value is fallen short of.
The charging process is indicated by the alternating charge level
at the battery symbol. After this display appears, the test system
should remain connected to the mains for a charging time of at
least 3 hours. Initial charging time: at least 5 hours.
The duration of the charging process is extended correspondingly
in the event of mixed operation, i.e. simultaneous charging and
measuring. Practically no charging at all takes place in the event
of continuous changing from one mains connection to the next
with a dwell time of less than 4 minutes per measuring point. We
recommend charging the battery pack overnight without interrup-
tion. This applies in particular to initial start-up.
You can start fast charging any time with the key (see “Setup
Menu” in section 4.10.8). Even after the batteries have been fully
charged, the device need not be disconnected from mains power
(overcharge protection).
Note
If no battery pack has been installed, the charging symbol
appears at the display after start-up and login.
4.1.1 Automatic Recognition of Mains Connection Errors
The test system automatically recognizes mains connection errors
if the conditions in the following table have been fulfilled. The user
is informed of the type of error, and all measuring functions are
disabled in the event of danger.
Each time the system is reconnected to the mains, the following
messages appear after the first test has been started:
Ð Simultaneously touch the contact surface and tap the “OK”
button.
Ð PE connection test:
If PE is detected, measurement is continued.
If no PE is detected, the following message appears:
“Connect PE”, for which three options exist:
Cancel: Abort the test.
OK: Repeated attempt to detect PE.
Testing is not continued until PE has been detected.
No: Testing is continued regardless of whether or not
PE is detected.
Attention!
!
In the event of mains connection errors in accordance with
either of the first two cases in the following table, immedi-
ately disconnect the test system from the mains and arrange
to have the error eliminated!
Note
Voltage at the electrical system’s protective conductor (PE)
may result in distorted measurement values during testing
for the absence of voltage, or during leakage voltage mea-
surements.
