4.7 General Information Regarding Data Backups
There are a total of three ways to back up data:
• The backup function (see section 4.11.3)
• Data export to XML (see section 7.7.6)
• Data export to the L&H format (see section 7.7.6)
The backup function creates a stored image of all database
entries and measurement results. This function has the
disadvantage of a version-dependent backup, i.e. the data can
only be restored to the same version of the test system from which
they were backed up. Backups which have been created before
software updates are thus no longer usable..
All data are saved when export to an XML file is executed. The
XML file can also be read after updating the test system, and can
be imported in a trouble-free fashion. For this reason, you should
always export your data to an XML file before installing an update.
In the event of data export to the L&H format, the data bases in
PS3 and in the test system are reconciled. In this case, only data
(catalog / data) which are important for the PS3 database are
exported. This type of data export cannot be used as a substitute
for a backup, or for data export to an XML file.
Note
“Data export to XML” is preferable to the “backup function”
for assuring secure, long-term data archiving.
Attention!
!
If the backup is interrupted due to a reset or by switching
the instrument off, the database may be destroyed.
CF Card (data safety)
To ensure data safety, the CF card must always remain in the in-
strument, and the auto-backup function must be activated. This is
the only way of saving backup copies of the batabase during the
power-down process.
