Terminating Device Messages
a) For IEEE 488 remote control
The following end-of-text characters can be used for data
receive:
NL New line = line feed = (0A
h
)
NL & EOI EOI = end or identify
DAB & EOI DAB = last data byte
The still common end-of-message character combination CR
LF (0D
h
followed by 0A
h
) should no longer be used according
to the standard. Although it is accepted by the device for data
receive, it should be used in combination with EOI.
The following end-of-message character is used when
transmitting the response string:
NL & EOI.
b) For RS 232C remote control
The following end-of-text characters can be used for data
receive:
NL (0A
h
) = new line = line feed
CR (0D
h
) = carriage return
CR LF Carriage return and line feed
ETB (17
h
)
ETX (03
h)
The following end-of-message character is used when
transmitting the response string:
NL (0A
h
) = new line = line feed
