12 Electrical and Control Wiring
IMPORTANT: All rout ing of elect rical wiring must be made
t hrough provided elect rical knockout s. Do not cut , punc-
t ure or alt er t he cabinet f or elect rical wiring.
HIGH VOLTAGE!
Failure to do so may cause property damage,
personal injury or death.
Disconnect ALL power before servicing.
Multiple power sources may be present.
HIGH VOLTAGE!
To avoid property damage, personal injury or death
due to electrical shock, this unit MUST have an
electrical ground. The
electrical ground circuit may consist of an
appropriately sized electrical wire connecting the
ground lug in the unit control box to the building
electrical service panel.
Other methods of grounding are permitted if performed
in accordance with the National Electric Code
(NEC)/American National Standards Institute
(ANSI)/National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 70
and local/state codes. In Canada, electrical grounding
is to be in accordance with the Canadian Electric Code
(CSA) C22.1.

12.1 Building Elect rical Service Inspect ion
This unit is designed f or single-phase elect rical supply
only. DO NOT OPERATE ON A THREE-PHASE POWER
SUPPLY. Measure t he power suppl y t o t he unit . The
supply volt age must be measured and be in agreement
wit h t he unit nameplat e power requirement s and wit hin
t he range shown.
12.2 Wire Sizing
Wire size is import ant t o t he operat ion of your equip-
ment . Use t he f ollowing check list when select ing t he
appropriat e wire size f or your unit .
• Wire used must carry the Minimum Circuit Ampac-
ity (MCA) listed on the unit’ s Series and Rating Plate.
• Ref er t o t he NEC (USA) or CSA (Canada) f or wire siz-
ing. The unit MCA f or t he air handler and t he op-
t ional elect ric heat kit can be f ound on t he unit Se-
ries and Rat ing Plat e.
• Wire must be sized to allow no more than a 2% volt-
age drop from the building breaker/ fuse panel to
the unit.
• Wires wit h dif f erent insulat ion t emperat ure rat ing
have varying ampacit ies - be sure t o check t he t em-
perat ure rat ing used.
Ref er t o t he lat est edit ion of t he Nat ional Elect ric
Code or in Canada t he Canadian Elect ric Code when
det ermining t he correct wire size.
12.3 Maximum Overcurrent Prot ection (MOP)
Every inst allat ion must include an NEC (USA) or CEC
(Canada) approved overcurrent prot ect ion device.
Also, check wit h local or st at e codes f or any special
regional requirement s.
Prot ect ion can be in t he f orm of f using or HACR st yle
circuit breakers. The Series and Rat ing Pl at e pro-
vides t he maximum overcurrent device permissible.
NOTE: Fuses or circuit breakers are to be sized larger
than the equipment MCA but not to exceed the MOP.
