Forobservingstars,itisunimportantwhethertheobjectisviewinatruesidedmannerorupsi-
de-down.IfEarthobservationsarecarriedout,aninversionprismshouldbeinsertedbetween
theeyepieceunddeflectionmirror(notincludedinalltelescopes).
Caution:
Therearenoinversionprismsforfinders.Instead,thefinderhasaspecialbonus:Lookthrough
thewrongsideofthefinder,fixitonyourhandandchangethedistance,untiltheskincanbe
clearlyrecognised–youhavea5timesmagnifyingmicroscope.

SUN OBSERVATIONS
Manyhaveexperiencehowharmfullookingatthesuncanbe.Sunglassesaregoodprotection
againstthesunsraysinourdegreesoflatitude.InAustraliaandintheAlps,theradiationvalues
areoftensignificantlystronger,normal,commerciallyavailablesunglassesofferbarelyanypro-
tectionhere.Ifoneimaginesthatthesunsraysthroughatelescope(alsosearchertelescopes
)meetthesensitiveeyeat35x,yes,evenupto350xstronger,thisiscomparablewithalaser
beam,whichdrillsthroughanarmoureddoorwithinseconds.
Thereforethehighestprotectivemeasuresshouldbetaken:
• Neverlookdirectlyatthesun,eyeinjuries!!!!
• Ensurethatchildrenneveruseatelescopeontheirown!!!
• Evenwhenusingasolarfilter,eyeinjuriesarenotexcluded!!!!
• Withstronglyreflectivestars,useafilter(e.g.whenviewingthemoon)
