lectronics wise, there’s no fancy
switching, just Gibson’s usual two
volumes, two tones and a three-way
selector toggle. Removing the rear cover-plate
there are no surprises, either, with the four
500kohm pots, mounted on a metal shielding
plate, with 223k code (0.022 microfarads)
‘Orange Drop’ tone capacitors all wired
modern style.
As to the pickups, Gibson USA’s Jim
DeCola confirms, “They are voiced to Slash’s
specification based off the pickups he’s been
using for many, many years. He’s been touring
the past year with the pickups and approved
them: they’re the real classic Slash sound.
Slash tailored the different pickup bobbin and
ring colours, the knobs to what he liked and
that’s what we wanted: his input.”
At output, the Alnico II-loaded humbuckers
measure 8.54k (bridge) and 8.25kohms
(neck), which reinforces the hotter wind
compared with the 7.95k and 7.52kohms of
the Burstbucker 1 (neck) and Burstbucker
2 (bridge) used on the Standard ’50s model
that we last checked out in 2019. [DB]
