DESCRIPTION
GenTite Peel & Stick Seam Tape (Black) is a cured Butyl based tape designed to provide a high strength,
watertight joint in Rubber Roofing (Black) roofing membranes. GenTite Seam Tape is soft and tacky for
quick grab to EPDM, yet possesses high initial strength at 158°F (70°C). The tape is wound in rolls on a
release liner.
INSTALLATION
Refer to current GenTite Application Instructions for additional application instructions.
IMPORTANT: Ensure both mating surfaces are free of debris and no moisture is present on the
seaming surfaces.
1. Position the top membrane to overlap the bottom membrane by a minimum of 3” (76.2 mm). Mark
the bottom membrane with a pen 1/2” (12 mm) from the edge of the top membrane to allow for 6 (¼”)
of the tape exposed. Fold the top membrane back 12” to 15” (305 mm to 357 mm) in order to apply
clear primer and tape.
2. Thoroughly mix GenTite Primer. DO NOT THIN! A minimum of 2 minutes of vigorous hand mixing
with a wooden paint stirrer or its equivalent is required. All sources of ignition should be eliminated;
adequate ventilation should exist.
3. Clean all surfaces with a clean cotton rag removing excess contamination prior to application of the
primer.
4. With a scrub pad and handle, apply GenTite Primer to the membrane using long and continuous back
and forth strokes with heavy to moderate pressure along the bonding area until no streaks or puddling
occurs.
5. Allow GenTite Primer to dry until slightly tacky to a dry finger touch.
6. Unroll seam tape along the marks on the bottom membrane for the entire length of the seam.
NOTE: DO NOT REMOVE THE RELEASE PAPER FROM THE SEAM TAPE AT THIS TIME.
7. With the release paper still on the tape, use a Teflon coated or hard rubber roller to hand roll the
entire strip of seam tape into the primed surface assuring adhesion.
8. Allow the top membrane to fall freely onto the bottom membrane. Pull the release paper from the
tape away from the seam ensuring contact first by brushing your hand across the top membrane at a
right angle.
9. Using a hand roller, roll the entire seam area with a silicone roller in perpendicular then parallel
motions. Apply GenTite Cover Tape and Edge Caulk to all seam areas to complete the seaming
process.
