Setup
Powering Your Scanner
You can power your scanner from a wall outlet, or from your vehicle’s battery.
Wall Outlet
1. Connect the tip of the supplied AC adapter to the DC 9V jack at the rear of your scanner.
2. Plug the AC adapter into your wall outlet.
To prevent electric shock, do not use the AC adapter’s polarized plug with an extension cord,
receptacle, or outlet unless you can fully insert the blades to prevent blade exposure.
Note: To avoid injury, do not connect the provided power adapter to a ceiling outlet.
Note: The correct orientation for the enclosed power adapter is in a vertical or floor-mount position.
Vehicle (Cigarette-Lighter Socket)
To power your scanner from a 12V power source in your vehicle, such as a cigarette-lighter socket,
you need a 9V, 400mA DC cigarette-lighter adapter (not supplied), available at your local
RadioShack store.
1. Insert the adapter’s barrel plug into the scanner’s DC 9V jack.
2. Plug the adapter’s other end into your vehicle’s cigarette-lighter or power socket.
Note: When you use a cigarette-lighter adapter, you might hear electrical noise from your engine
while scanning. This is normal. This is less of a problem if you connect directly to the vehicle fuse
box.
