CDPD Problems (Continued)
Problem Description Suggestions
Watcher reports: CDPD ras
connection is not running.
Close all communication applications, then close and restart Watcher.
Watcher reports a good
connection and you are
registered to a CDPD
network however your
Internet Web Browser can
never find sites.
Make sure the DNS entry in Dial-up Networking is correct. This is the
IP address of the Internet Domain Name Server responsible for
converting site names into Internet Protocol (IP) addresses. Without the
correct IP of a name server your browser cannot locate web sites.

This table lists problems specifically related to CSC use.
Problem Description Suggestions
Fails to acquire a Cellular
channel.
Make sure that the antenna is connected correctly.
Check that you are in the cellular coverage area, or that your immediate
location is not preventing the radio/modem from receiving a signal, e.g.,
you are in an area of weak signal strength.
Acquires a channel but
cannot place a call.
Make sure the NAM and side designator are configured correctly.
Check that the correct NAM is being used (Active NAM Index).
Check with your Cellular service provider to confirm that your account
is activated.
If the cellular network becomes congested due to heavy cellular user
traffic, you may not be able to establish a connection. No user action
can alleviate this problem. You will have to retry your connection later.
9.6. Wireline Problems
This table lists problems specifically related to wireline use.
Problem Description Suggestions
The Speaker on the MIB is
excessively noisy.
The modem was in CDPD mode and changed to Wireline. When this
mode change was done, the cellular radio was not powered off. Power
cycle the modem to ensure the radio is off.
The modem does not go off-
hook to place or answer calls
or intermittently disconnects.
Verify the telephone cable connections at both ends. You may need to
attach a handset to the line to verify that the PSTN service is active and
connections are clear (free of noise, interference, tones, etc.).
Additionally see the following symptoms and suggestions.
The modem does not go off-
hook to answer incoming
calls.
Verify the auto-answer is enabled (register S0).
