8.3. Placing a Voice Call
The follow procedure applies to placing voice calls in both Wireline and CSC modes. Where CSC
mode is used, the modem must have been configured with a NAM and be registered with the
cellular service provider.
To place a call enter the following commands (the AT is omitted for brevity):
1. +WS46=n where n is the mode choice of either 17 for CSC Voice or 18 for Wireline Voice.
2. Dn where n is the telephone number to dial.
The modem will enable the microphone and speaker, and dial the number. You are considered
off-hook (online condition) until you explicitly hang up the call. The modem remains in
command state allowing you to enter AT commands to: monitor the RSSI, adjust the microphone
sensitivity and speaker volume, and terminate the call.
During the call you can adjust the microphone and speaker levels as described in Section 8.5
below.
See Section 8.6 below for instructions on terminating a call.
8.4. Receiving a Voice Call
Although the modem is capable of receiving and answering voice calls, this is not considered a
common procedure.
The follow procedure applies to answering voice calls in both Wireline and CSC modes.
To receive a call enter the following commands (the AT is omitted for brevity):
1. +WS46=n where n is the mode choice of either 17 for CSC Voice or 18 for Wireline Voice.
2. S0=1 to enable auto-answer. You may set to a value higher than 1 if you would like the
modem to go off-hook on a later ring.
The modem is now enabled to answer calls in voice mode. When a call arrives, the modem will
display a RING message. The RI signal will behave normally: active while receiving a ring and
inactive between rings.
NOTE
If S0=0, the modem will still display the RING message when a call arrives, but this
revision of firmware does not support manual answer. Future implementations will
allow manual answer using the A (Answer – Manual) command.
Upon reception of the number of rings specified in register S0 the modem will go off-hook and
enable the microphone and speaker. The modem will remain off-hook (online condition) until you
explicitly hang up the call. The modem remains in command state allowing you to enter AT
commands to: monitor the RSSI, adjust the microphone sensitivity and speaker volume, and
terminate the call.
During the call you can adjust the microphone and speaker levels as described in Section 8.5
below.
See Section 8.6 below for instructions on terminating a call.
