The AirCard 595 wireless WAN adapter
TheȱAirCardȱprovidesȱyourȱcomputerȱwithȱaȱconnectionȱtoȱtheȱ
CDMAȱwirelessȱnetwork.
TheȱAirCardȱfitsȱintoȱaȱstandardȱType IIȱPC Cardȱslotȱavailableȱ
onȱmostȱnotebookȱPCs.
EveryȱCDMAȱnetworkȱoperatesȱonȱoneȱofȱthreeȱradioȱ
frequencyȱbands.ȱAsȱaȱdualȬbandȱproduct,ȱtheȱAirCardȱ
operatesȱonȱtwoȱofȱtheseȱbandsȱ(see
ȱpage 28),ȱprovidingȱaȱwideȱ
coverageȱarea.
The AirCard drivers and enabling
software
Requiredȱtoȱcontrol,ȱmonitor,ȱandȱmanageȱyourȱwirelessȱ
connections,ȱthisȱincludesȱtheȱWatcherȱapplication.
TheȱAirCardȱcomesȱwithȱa ȱCDȱcontainingȱthisȱsoftware:
• WatcherȱapplicationȱthatȱyouȱuseȱtoȱmanageȱtheȱAirCardȱ
andȱmonitorȱyourȱconnections.ȱForȱstepȬby Ȭstepȱinstruc Ȭ
tionsȱtoȱaccessȱfeaturesȱofȱWatcher,ȱuseȱtheȱapplication’sȱ
onlineȱhelp.
• TheȱdeviceȱdriverȱsoftwareȱthatȱenablesȱtheȱAirCardȱtoȱ
workȱwithȱyourȱcomputer’sȱoperatingȱsystem.
Theȱdriverȱand ȱapplicationȱsoftwareȱmustȱbeȱinstalledȱbeforeȱ
youȱinsertȱtheȱAirCardȱforȱtheȱfirstȱtime.ȱDetailedȱinstructionsȱ
areȱprovidedȱinȱtheȱfollowingȱchapters.
A CDMA service provider account
CompaniesȱthatȱoperateȱCDMAȱnetworksȱandȱprovideȱaccessȱ
toȱtheseȱnetworksȱareȱcalledȱserviceȱproviders. ȱToȱuseȱtheȱ
AirCard,ȱyouȱmustȱhaveȱanȱaccountȱwithȱaȱCDMAȱserviceȱ
provider.

Code feature to prevent others
from using your account should
your AirCard be stolen. For infor-
mation on this feature, see the
online help.
Eachȱserviceȱproviderȱhasȱitsȱownȱpricingȱoptions.ȱThereȱmayȱ
beȱflatȱrateȱaccounts,ȱwhichȱprovideȱyouȱaȱmaximumȱnumberȱ
ofȱminutesȱofȱnetworkȱusageȱforȱaȱfixedȱmonthlyȱfee.ȱThereȱ
mayȱbeȱaccountsȱforȱwhichȱyouȱareȱchargedȱforȱnetworkȱusageȱ
byȱtheȱminuteȱorȱbyȱtheȱamountȱofȱdata
ȱtransmitted.
Yourȱaccountȱmayȱincludeȱaȱvarietyȱofȱotherȱservicesȱsuchȱasȱ
SMSȱmessaging.
EachȱAirCardȱhasȱbeenȱprovisionedȱatȱtheȱfactoryȱforȱuseȱwithȱ
aȱparticularȱserviceȱprovider.ȱThisȱsetsȱtheȱAirCardȱtoȱuseȱ
particularȱradioȱchannelsȱandȱenablesȱservicesȱspecificȱforȱthatȱ
provider.
