Maintenance and Troubleshooting
Replacing Trimmer Belt
NOTE: Use only Generac belts. To order a replacement,
contact Generac Customer Service at 1-888-436-3722
(1-888-GENERAC), or www.generac.com.
1. T
ip the machine back to allow access to the under-
side of the unit.
2. See Figure 4-3. Remove trimmer cords (A) from
h
ead assembly.
3. Rem
ove four trimmer guard bolts and flat washers
(B) with a 3/8” wrench.
4. Rem
ove trimmer guard (C).

5. See Figure 4-4. Remove flat groove idler locknut
(
D) using a 9/16” wrench. Loosen v groove idler
locknut (E) using a 9/16” wrench just enough so
washer plate (F) can be rotated out of the way.
6. Rem
ove the flat Idler pulley and spacer behind the
washer plate.
7. Rem
ove belt (G) from around the engine pulley (H)
and head assembly pulley.
NOTE: If nece
ssary, remove engine belt guide (I) using a
9/16” wrench.

8. Install a ne
w drive belt around the engine and head
assembly pulleys.
9. Install th
e engine belt guide if it was removed.
10. See Figure 4-5. Install the small spacer first, then
flat gr
oove idler pulley (J) with belt (K) in the pulley
groove. Verify the belt is installed correctly
between the idler pulley (L), bracket tab (M), and
guide pin (N).
NOTE: The belt must be ins
talled on the inside of guide
pin (L) for the trimmer head to function correctly.

11. See Figure 4-4. Rotate washer plate (E) onto flat
groov
e idler stud (D) and install the locknut using a
9/16” wrench. Tighten both Idler locknut (C and D)
using a 9/16” wrench.
12. See Figure 4-3. Position the trimmer guard (C) and
secur
e with the four bolts and flat washers (B)
using a 3/8” wrench.
13. Insta
ll the trimmer cord and tip the trimmer down
on the head assembly.
14. Afte
r installing the new belt, adjust the tension
properly by adjusting the in-line adjuster all the way
in. See Adjusting Trimmer Head Belt Tension for
more information. Proper
tension will extend the
life of the belt.
NOTE: Befor
e using the trimmer, engage the trimmer
head engage bar 10 times and hold it for three seconds
each time. This wears in the belt, ensuring the best grip
for trimming.
