3.5 VALVECLEARANCE
* Intake-- 0.15 __O.02mm (cold), (0.006" __0.0008" inches)
* Exhaust-- 0.20 _ O.02mm (cold) (0.008" _ 0.0008" inches)
Afterthefirst 50 hoursof operation,checkthevalve clearance
in theengineand adjustif necessary.
Important: If feeling uncomfortableabout doing this procedureor
the proper tools are not available, pleasetake the generatorto the
nearestservice centerto havethe valveclearanceadjusted.This is
a very important stepto ensurelongestlife for the engine.
3.6 GENERAL
The generatorshould be started at least once every 30 days and
be allowed to run at least 30 minutes. If this cannot be done and
the unit must be stored for more than 30 days, use the following
information as a guideto prepareit for storage.
NEVER store engine with fuel in tank indoors
or in enclosed, poorly ventilated areas where
fumes may reach an open flame, spark or pilot
light as on a furnace, water heater, clothes dryer
or other gas appliance.
,_AIIow unit to cool entirely before storage.
3.7 LONGTERMSTORAGE
It is important to preventgum deposits from forming in essential
fuel system parts such as the carburetor, fuel hose or tank during
storage. Also, experience indicates that alcohol-blended fuels
(called gasohol,ethanol or methanol)can attract moisture,which
leads to separationandformation of acids during storage.Acidic
gas can damagethe fuel system of an enginewhile in storage.
To avoid engine problems, the fuel system should be emptied
before storageof 30 daysor longer,as follows:
* Removeall gasolinefrom the fuel tank.
Drain fuel into approved container outdoors,
away from open flame. Be sure engine is cool.
Do not smoke.
* Start and run engineuntil enginestops from lack of fuel.
* Whileengineis still warm, drain oil from crankcase. Refillwith
recommendedgrade.
* Removespark plugandpour about 1/2 ounce (15 ml) of engine
oil into the cylinders. Coverspark plug hole with rag. Puttthe
recoil starter a couple times to lubricatethe piston rings and
cylinder bore.
ACAUTION!
,_Avoid spray from spark plug hole when
cranking engine.
* Installandtighten spark plug. Do not connect spark plugwire.
* Cleanthe generatorouter surfaces. Checkthat cooling air slots
and openingson generatorareopen andunobstructed.
* Storethe unit in a clean, dry place.
3.8 OTHERSTORAGETiPS
* Do notstore gasolinefrom oneseasonto another.
* Replacethe gasolinecan if it starts to rust. Rust and/or dirt in
the gasoline will cause problems with the carburetor and fuel
system.
* If possible, storethe unit indoors andcover it to give protection
from dust anddirt. BESURETO EMPTYTIdEFUELTANK.
* If it is not practical to empty the fuel tank and the unit is to be
storedfor sometime, useacommerciallyavailablefuel stabilizer
addedto the gasolineto increasethe life of the gasoline.
* Cover the unit with a suitable protective cover that does not
retain moisture.
,_ NEVER cover the generator while engine and
exhaust areas are warm.
